How to   Improve Shower Air Quality

There is concern that the air in showers could be unhealthy. This is because the fine particles of water produced by shower heads make it particularly easy for chlorine and other potentially toxic substances in the water to enter the lungs.

One of the simplest things that can be done in order to ease concern about this possible hazard is to to keep the shower curtain or shower door partially open when taking a shower. For example, the curtain only needs to be extended sufficiently to keep water from going on the floor, thus facilitating a supply of fresh air to breath. (Water on the floor can be dangerous because it can make it slippery. It can also enter any gaps between the bathtub and the floor, eventually causing the wood under the floor surface to rot.)

The supply of fresh air can be further enhanced by keeping the door to the bathroom open (which might not be practical in some living environments), or at least keeping it slightly ajar, or keeping a window in the bathroom open. It can also be helpful to use the ventilator fan, if there is one, to create a flow of fresh air through the room, particularly if there is no window.

Another way to reduce pollutants from shower water is to purchase an activated carbon filter for the shower head. Key to the successful use of such filters is to change them periodically, according to the manufacturer's directions.
